How is an MMORPG created and how many people tend to be behind it?

I wanted to know this because I'm going into this business (hopefully). I wanted to help run a cool game site as an admin who actually makes the cool announcements to the players. I love the thought of playing on some "God" (high lvl, infinite money type) account exclusive to the admins, and get payed to help run something like that. Any help here?

1. Not sure, but just have some computer experience. I mean like programming, engineering, and such. Learning computer language like Java I think would be definitely helpful.
